Dispatches welcomes pitches and unsolicited submissions via email:
(submit (at) dispatchesmag.com).
We’re open to dispatches, essays, photo essays, interviews, reviews, poetry, and fiction. When pitching a dispatch, essay, review, or other piece of nonfiction, briefly state how you’ll make it yours and why your sensibility is the right one for the job. For interviews, please include some background information about your subject (with links or images, when possible). For complete submissions, please send them either in GoogleDoc or Word Doc format (no PDFs, please); we request a short paragraph summarizing the piece in the body of the email. Be sure your work is titled (even if it’s a working title; if you’re in need of one, one will be provided for you at no extra cost), double-spaced, and includes page numbers and your name. To get a sense of what we’re looking for, please familiarize yourself with the magazine. Back issues are available for purchase, and we have a wide variety of stories online.
Our team is small, so please be patient when awaiting a response. We try to get back to all messages, but every now and again things may slip from the desk, as it were. Feel free to reach out again after three weeks if you haven’t heard back. We do not consider previously published material. While we prefer to avoid simultaneous submissions, please notify us of the fact along with the date of your outside submission. Thank you for your time and your interest.
And remember:
